    i could deal with bowling, but i'm definitely going to the movie.  
 i s'pose the two aren't mutually exclusive - if we go to like a 5p showing
 of the movie or a late show?  anyone?  anyone?

  re: silly ads on TV

    these mcdonald's ads are really beginning to annoy me.  you know the
 ones - the computer generated faces that, for no apparent reason, have
 two mouths and carry on conversations between the two mouths?  what the
 hell is this, some ad executives getting together, doing acid, and then
 designing mickey d's latest ad campaign?  i can't for the life of me 
 imagine how you'd sell this to someone.  "ok, look.  we hire someone to
 do these boxy computer graphics of a face.  give 'em some wiry hair, big
 bulgy eyes, you know.  and maybe toss in a couple of rotating mcdonalds
 logos.  the computer modelers love that kinda shit.  and here's the 
 kicker - we give the face TWO MOUTHS!   and they talk to each other!  these
 two mouths on the same face actually talk to each other!"

    i hope the guy that came up with this isn't thinking about going into
 writing tv sitcoms for a living.  

    the other ad that got to me was one i just saw tonight on tv.  a few
 minutes ago, as a matter of fact.  it's the latest UTA ad.  they've got
 this woman out on I-15 or someplace, extolling the virtues of public
 transportation, and how stupid we all are for not using uta more than we
 do.  (which is true, but that's not my point.  i'm guilty as charged.)

    all of the sudden the ad takes this twist into the surreal.   "it's
 as if," she says, with no indication on her face that she's about to do
 something completely bizarre, "we were all carrying around 14 foot long
 bananas with us everywhere we go."  and as if to prove the point, cause
 she's just gotta know that, somewhere out there, there's someone going
 "14 foot bananas!  no f'in way!", she reaches down and hefts this huge,
 (probably 14+ foot long) banana just to demonstrate how stupid it would 
 be to carry around an oversized banana.  

   i think she's been watching too much mclaughlin.  i wanted to see her
 reach down and pull out a huge foil package, and then demonstrate the
 proper method of applying an oversized condom to any 14ft bananas you've
 got lying around.
